New Tyrone jersey unveiled

Tyrone’s new jersey for 2010 has just been unveiled. The impetus for the redesign came after Pomeroy company Rocwell Water stepped down from its sponsorship deal with the Tyrone county board amidst rumours of financial pressure.

The Fermanagh based haulage and courier company Target Express have stepped in to replace Rocwell, who have adorned Tyrone shirts since 2004. Target already sponsors the Tyrone club championship and the new deal is expected to earn Tyrone’s county board £80,000 a year.

The new look shirt is an obvious throw back to the retro Tyrone shirt of old, with the traditional stripes and collar such as the famed ’86 shirt (left).

There’s nothing retro about the £40 price tag for a large adult shirt however.

Sportswear manufacturers O’Neills states that the ‘new’ style has been used since around 1927.

Tyrone will wear the new design for the first time next Sunday when they take on Antrim in the Ulster SFC quarter-final at Casement Park.
